The International University Saxophone Meeting - Argentina (UniverSax) was  
born with the intention of promoting and bringing knowledge about the saxophone in all  
its wide universe, both from the academic and the popular music styles. This objective  
is specified every year by the participation of great teachers and talented saxophone  
scholars from different parts of the world.

Organized by Pablo Salcedo (current proffesor and creator of the Chair of Saxophone  
of the National University of Cuyo), through the Love the World Foundation, UNCuyo  
Saxophone Chair and the institutional endorsement of the UNCuyo (FAyD, UNCuyo,  
Mendoza - Argentina.)


Note. In 1994, Prof. Pablo Salcedo began to teach a Saxophone Workshop at the School of Music of  
the National University of Cuyo. After 4 successful years Prof. Salcedo presented the Chair project in  
1999, with the support of his students and the establishment as a whole, becoming Chair in the year  
2000. Currently the UNCuyo allows to study the Lic. In Saxophone focused especially in the classical  
repertoire and the Lic. in Popular Latin American Music - Specialty "Saxophone". In both other styles  
such as jazz, ethnic and contemporary are complementary to professional training.

Numerous and renowned teachers and interpreters of the saxophone have shared their knowledge since  
then, both in courses of chair and through the World Flutes Festival, including: Miguel Villafruela (Cuba -  
Chile), Matt James (Prof. University of Ohio, USA) , Roy Elder (Argentina), Jorge Retamoza (Argentina),  
Fernanda Lagger (Argentina), (Bernardo Monk (Argentina), Miguel De Caro (Argentina), Javier Girotto  
(Argentina - Italy), Eric Seva (France), among others.


The objectives of the Meeting are:


• Provide quality information on the saxophone for university and non-university  
students.

• Generate links between universities, institutions and people that have a connection  
with the saxophone world.

• Create a non-competitive environment, fostering friendship and support among the  
participants.

• Encourage the opening and acquisition of knowledge between the different and  
multiple styles in which the saxophone has a presence in the academic and popular  
world: Classical, contemporary, jazz, Latin American, fusion saxophone and other  
possible within ethnic and / or regional music. world.

• Promote the interpretation, creation and publication of works for the whole family of  
the saxophone, giving special and equal relevance to the music of Latin American and  
universal composers.

• Specify the realization of an international artistic - educational event, with the  
possibility of repeating annually / biannually.

• Integrate music with activities related to the preservation of the environment, respect  
for living beings and world peace.

• Explore the relationship between the instrument, the body and the thinking process.

• Bring all those who have recently approached an instrument closer to those who have  
more experience (interpreters, teachers, builders, etc.)

• Generate spaces for learning and exchanging material (books, recordings, ideas)
